Corona Del Mar/Surf Fishing

Went out to corona del mar so i could fish the beach and the jetty and ended up only catching a sand dab or REALLY small hali but i couldnt tell and mackerel so i got bored so i put one on as live bait and i saw a couple of dolphins cruising around and next thing you know my drag starts running so i run over to grab my rod but i dont set the hook cuz i didnt want to hook a dolphin and then as soon as it started it was over but my hook was severely bent

sweet! the waters around there have been picking up in recent weeks. Couple weeks before so, it isnt so great. A lot of macks, tons of them to be exact.

Hard to ID from the pic but it could be any of a variety of the flatfish that tend to roam the shallows.

I'll guess a small halibut.
I've tried fishing over in that area, but to no success.
