Alex here guys. Been busy with work, especially with the mortgage industry the way it is. I am trying to keep my head above the water (no joke).
Anyway, decided to do some fishing with my pastor. This is from few days ago. Sorry for the delay (been very busy).
We hit our spot (bay) by 6:30 AM. I rigged up Basstrix for my pastor and I drop shot Gulp 4inch mullet. The Sun was up early and hot so we put on HEAVY surf-makeup on (lol).
On my 3rd cast, I feel a bump and see my line started to come in. So I tighten up my line and gave some time for it to swallow. Set the hook and bendo and landed a 19 inch hali.

About 10 minutes later, a fast hit and I knew it was not a hali. Sure enough, a good size spotted bay bass followed by an YFC hit my mullet.

Wanting more, I switch to my trusted LC. It took some time, but a spotted bass and second YFC hooked, landed and released.
Feeling somewhat left out on legal hali, I cast out with damaged basstrix floating near by my side. I guess my pastor had thrown away his. About 5 cast (very slow retrieve), I get a major bump. This one is not fooling around and grabs my setup and makes a fast run. All I did was just tighten up my rod and this 23 inch hali set the hook by itself.

Took few minutes and the legal hali was landed and released. I had serious thoughts about having a hali sushi that night, but I just didn’t want to bother with cleaning (lazy these days).
By the way, I ended up hooking a sand shark (about 28 inch long) on its tail. It was really fun on my light setup. Fought it for about 10 minutes and released.
The Final Count (my poor pastor skunked out) – all released
2 spotted bass – all good size (on Gulp Mullet and LC)
2 YFC – mid size (on Gulp Mullet and LC)
2 hali – 19 and 23 inch (on Gulp Mullet and Basstrix)
1 sand shark – 28 inch (on LC)
I am going down to Mexico this Thursday night and coming back Saturday for some serious Surf Fishing (south of Encinitas) with some serious fishing fanatic friends. Will take pictures and post.
