Hit up NPH with Ken (skunked4life) and hit the docks..

No bass were caught today, so if you're looking for some Spottie porn, you're outta luck

Current wasn't very strong, but on the move, nice outgoing.. Lots of YFC everywhere, nothing huge, but a few nice ones here and there.

This big Golden Retriever popped up outta nowhere holding a chew-toy, startled us a bit, but that dog was really cool! Kinda seemed like he was saying: "Check out my new toy!'.

Ken got a nice hit by a mooring can with a Big Hammer grub, but it shook loose before he could land it (spottie?)

An isopod bit the living crap outta me when I was taking some shots of a croaker, and it made me bleed! I forgot to take a picture, but this time I have a witness to back up my claim that those things are vicious bloodthirsty vermin!! next time I'll get a good shot of it for BSP. =]

I was taking it easy, didn't feel too active after breaking a molar, then it kept cutting my tongue.. X( The croakers weren't huge this time, but we still had a nice time.

Here are some pictures, tried to get more artsy:

Thanks for the lunch, Ken. Dont feel too bad about not being able to give me a ride home, my phone has Super mario All-stars on it

Thanks for the report. Nice croakers. Been wanting to get out to the salt but a family member has been having health issues. Was the isopod one of those huge, white sow bug looking things? If it was, I used to pull them off rockcod and play with them as a kid. Never got bitten. If it was one of them, I now know I was lucky. I never knew they bit let alone hard enough to draw blood.

normally if you shoo them away, they dont get a chance to hurt you, but they can chew through flesh quite rapidly.

you see them in the shallows, swimming really fast. they seem to have an anti-coagulant in their saliva, too. the wound took a long time to stop bleeding.

What a great day! The weather was beautiful. The fish were beautiful. The women were beautiful. Beat the skunk. And most importantly, met and hung out with a cool guy (Smokehound) to share knowledge and enjoy fellowship regarding one of the greatest pasttimes in SoCal, fishing!!! Thanks Smokehound! Let's do it again soon!

Wow! That's kinda scary. The candiru of isopods. Now that I've looked them up, I think I have seen them crawling across the bodies of Tomcod I've caught. Never been bitten though. Now when I rip my swim trunks off I'll use those buggers as an excuse.

I was there with my uncle this morning from 6-9am and it was cold and windy. We manged a few bass and small halis in our tubes, but that was with a decent moving current. I think you had the right idea to go when the sun came up, good job on the croaker!

P.S. if you are talking about those little biting sand flee things, I haaaate them, they're everywhere....

Cool Pics SH.

These things look like the ones that crawl out of the gills of Sand Dabs ?

DR, those ones look like they'd be good steamed with lemon, garlic and butter. I'll bet the soft-shelled version of those will catch nice sized corbina. :)

they look almost identical to these, they are tiny but vicious.

Some artsy photos indeed. Nice job on whacking the YFCs and that sucks about the vermin bite.

Smoke & Skunked,

YFC's are better than the other result. You guys had some nice time on the water. Can't fool this veteran of the harbor with the location in your pics though!

Time to try the creature baits or something different? Have not been the in almost a year!

http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/BubblegumIce.jpgI've been using brush hog knockoffs and Chigger Craws in Green Pumpkin/ Blue flake. Honestly just small 2 inch grubs on jigheads can be effective for toad baybass, Ken got a hit on a perch grub.

Im thinking of ordering some of these:

I bet a few legal halis would bite those.
