i just pick some friend head down to balboa pier arrived 12:30 parking stink it took half hour banking in sun looking for parking, i went down to mid-pier fishing around 1pm set-up sabaki rig for mack and bonito and setup sliding sinker for halibut. i try catching some live bait for halibut, used 5" small spanish mack, rigged, casting out for 15min later, big hit bend rod half way, reeling in the mack killed and bit on side i knew it was halibut much bigger size. second time nothing on the smelt, third time baby blue mack 5 min later heavy slam nearly pull my rod down, reeling in, the bait gone, damn it :evil: i dont like so i forget it finish filling the bucket, my friend did same way again casting out dead smelt on the drop caught 1 1/2lb bonito, we left 9:30pm
next time: two baitcast set-up halibut, short rod for mackerel, bontia, live bait.
the halibut are huge down here right time but wrong set-up.
