need help

so the familys thinking of going to piru this weekend.. never been fishing their so i need some advice on what to expect over their.. perhapps on what to use for bait? do kast masters work? what kind of lines should i bring etc. in honesty ive never been fresh water fishing.. some of the basics would help.. thanks in advance
