Saw this in the Angeles National Forest. Pretty wasteful. Of course, water > fish in importance in this area I guess. You'll see the dead fish at the end, 5-6 rainbow trout.

Basically one of the mountain streams eventually opens into a pipe, then into the above structure, then drains into another pipe and I guess goes to farms/drinking water/etc...

Very interesting. I wonder if they're wild or stockers?

Pretty sure they are all wild fish. Very small, maybe 8 inches at most.

Just to clarify, this is water from a normal mountain creek. However, at the base of the mountain, the creek drains into a little pond, with a pipe in the middle. Any fish unlucky enough to get into the pipe end up in the structure I showed in the video. From there, it's either a) try to stay alive in the small spillway b)get sucked down the pipe to who knows where or c) land up on the dead fish rack

You should contact Trout Unlimited. They have a number to call and report on their website.

I would call fish and game at 1 888 DFG-CALTIP (888 334-2258)

I don't know if they would care. After all, it's a flood control/water department structure...county owned or something like that.

Call the Angeles National Forest and ask to speak to the Biologist. Explain the situation and give them the link to the video. May or may not be his jurisdiction but they might care enough to give you the number of the responsible party.

Carp,I don’t believe that it matters if it’s county property, the Ca DFG still has jurisdiction.
I’m not in law enforcement but from my layman’s perspective, I see at least two violations of the fish and game code. No harm in calling. Maybe you'll earn a reward:Smile:

before the station fire DFG used to stock it but there were some naturals in there as well, since the station fire the whole place has been transformed haven't been up there in a while but when I did go up there were no parking signs everywhere along side the road, I got to see areas that had been overgrown but were now cleared away and the stream has been rerouted.
