Today was the Westren Outdoor News Southern California Trout Opener held at Irvine Lake. What an event it turned out to be! Prior to the even a strong "winter" storm barreled down with massive amounts of rain! Campers and fisherman in the line up did not let the storm dampen their spirits as the WON So Cal Trout Opener is one of the premiere events held at the lake. Fishing was red hot today with both stocker sized Trout and a couple of Trophies to keep things intresting! In fact three fish cracking the Double Digit mark where checked in today!

Thanks to all for the props! Congrats to Jason for taking the win. And a special thanks to my bro Seechrisfish for being a great boat captain for the day and netting my fish! I landed my fish early at about 7:30 and couldn't weigh it in until noon. I was worried about it loosing weight sitting on ice at the tackle shop but it didn't loose much at all and the weight that it lost would not have changed anything. Original weight was 13.1# and only lost 1.5 ounces. Jason's fish was always bigger. Congrats to him and his partner on the Alaska trip. The Vine staff did a great job considering all of the challenges of the day and thank you to the WON staff for putting on this tourney. I don't know where the living in Fullerton part came from but close enough.LOL

Did I hear right? Didn't Jason say something about a wedding if he won a trip to Alaska. Something about a honeymoon?

I don't mean any disrespect by this...and I'm just looking for clarification. I thought for tournaments, anglers were supposed to net their own fish?!?!? Please advise....thank you

Seriously? The way to landing a huge fish like that is to have a great net man to jump into action when you hook up on the troll!! Congrats to Dan and hats off to Chris for having the knowledge and ability to land that beast during an awesome and huge tourney!!

It is not like we were on shore and he waded out to net my fish. I fought the fish for quite some time and had it boat side a couple of times but it still made runs from me. When it finally was tired and next to the boat he netted it for me. If this is against any rules it is news to me. I have netted many fish for others and have seen it done hundreds of times and have never seen this issue come up. That would be like saying a deckhand can't gaff your fish you have to do it yourself. How would a child fishing in the tourney net their own fish while fighting the fish with the rod and reel in hand.

I'm not trying to take anything away from you man...I believe you did a good job with bringing the fish in. Plus, I wasn't at the WON tourney so please don't think I'm trying to gain anything.

However, I clearly remember signing up for a Irvine Lake master's qualifier tournament a while back, and I was told by the lady at the signup table that I was to net my own fish.

Again...it is not my intent to create any drama...I'm just trying to get clarification to what was told to me by a Irvine Lake employee, so I know going forward

With recent turn of events that has taken place at Irvine if I were you I would make sure of what the rules are so that no one gets their panties in a bunch. I had a great net man last year when I caught my winning trout at this event, Tony again thanks. But to be clear he never went into the water to help me land my PB to date.

No problem bro. It's all good.

Never even heard of that before.
I didn't set the hook and pass him the rod. I didn't chum the water. I didn't use more than 2 rods. I didn't just scoop up the fish without it already being on a line. We didn't snag it. That thing swallowed the lure.
Those are the main rules I know of. Nothing in the rules stated that someone couldn't net your fish for you.
I've caught fish on shore and in the boat while the patrol/security was talking with me and had others net the fish for me. They never said that was against the rules.

Perhaps in the Masters (haven't made it yet, see previous post why) they make you. Never heard of it,
though.
Can someone whose been in the Masters confirm/deny this?

Your wrong and your clarified

I don't mind at all being wrong. However, I am just asking that VineAssist, Vineline, VinePatrol or any other Irvine staff member state if it's acceptable or not to have someone net for you during tournaments.

I must have missed in your previous post where you asked for only (VineAssist, Vineline, VinePatrol or any other Irvine staff member) since I am 2nd in command I thought I would chime in. Forgive me Bro. and come and join us next week at the Vine for some Fun, fishing and some food at the Rib Cookoff. Go to the Rendezvous section and get some info.
