wut kind of fish is this

i am sure its a common fish but i never ocean fish
and i dont got a pic so i am going to try to explain

well i caught it off the bottom well on a boat near the jetty in newport
i was using a jig

this fish was brown, about 16 inches long
had spines on the top
and a spine on the bottom that i remeber prickin me thru my glove
it also had some wiskers

hope this is a good enough explanation

the kind of bait that you used could help. it sounds like a corbina, or something in the croaker familly, they kinda have whiskers?

other than that i dont know, tell us how you were fishin when you caught it

Corbina and croaker are almost all silver, not brown....
