As the title reads "Everything is biting at Irvine Lake"! Trout fishing was on fire at the West Shore this morning, Bass fishing is in a full blowen wide open style bite, the Crappie are starting to show for anglers not pursuing other targets and for the second week in a row we weighed in a Blue Catfish over 20lbs!
As I stated in the opneing sentence the trout fishing on the west shore was absolutley on fire this morning! Bob Hoose from Berkley was on the water this morning and could only describe what he saw as "Looked like I was fishing White Sea Bass at the East End of Catalina!" Guys where hooting and hollering as they hooked up and boats just kept pilling in the area. Guys where catching fish everywhere down the shoreline with Garlic Powerbait being the hot bait related Hoose! On top of the hot fishing on the West Shore another Double Digit Rainbow made its way to the scales again today!

Matt Spelman of San Pedro caught this 10.0 Rainbow Trout while fishing a Nightcrawler and Powerbait combo in the Santiago Flats.

As i mentioned the Crappie are starting to roam around a look for areas to spawn. Anglers proficent at targeting these elusive panfish have been catching them in the Santiago Flats and the old fenceline on 1/32oz mini jigs fished vertically or drifted in 15-28ft of water. As mentioned once the Crappie move up they can be sight fished much like you would for Largemouth Bass! PLEASE RELEASE ALL FEMALE CRAPPIE THAT ARE FULL OF EGGS TO HELP ENSURE OUR FUTURE ANGLERS HAVE A CHANCE AT FISHING THESE FINE GAMEFISH!!

Anthony Daquilla (5yrs old) is pictured here with a 1.8 Crappie he caught while fishing a Crappie John Finger jig (mini jig) in the Santiago Flats.

Bass fishing is going of the richtrer scale here at the lake. Although no giants where weighed in as of this report! A lot of the anglers fishing for the bass have been enjoying wide open style action on dropshot, wacky rigs, senkos even some crankbait fish are to be had! Seth Mosteo of the Longfin took his younger brothers Justin and Steven out and the two younger brothers caught about 12 fish in only two hours time using Yammato Senkos in the Green Pumpkin color while fishing in the Santiago Flats.

Young Justin is all smiles after landing this chunky Largemouth!
PLEASE REMEBER THAT ALL BASS SPECIES ARE CATCH AND RELEASE AT IRVINE LAKE!!

Last but not least the warmer weather seems to have the lake's Catfish population on the prowl as for the 2nd week in a row a Big Blue Catfish was landed by a bass angler!

Randy "CatRando" Aamot of Newport checks in this 20.2 Blue Catfish he caught while fishing a DB jig in the Santiago Flats.

Only at Irvine Lake could you possibly go for a "Freshwater Grand Slam" right now and have a legitamate shot! No other lake in Southern California can make that claim!

There are actually plenty of lakes in SoCal that can make that claim
