awsome if u read my last post i wuz hittin up the flats but after the cuda bite turned off we headed 2 daina point and we atarted chuming mackrael and wat do u no sharks tons of them we cought tons of sand sharks and lots of groupers the boggest 1 i caught wuz 45 pounds and i used a whole mackrael but chopped off the tail

well it had a big mouth and it had no real teeth just and i caught it at the dana flats and we were chumming with mackrael and i threw a hole piece on but chopped the tail off and cut sum slits so it could give off the blood scent and he nailed it but im pretty sure it was a grouper but yea if ur goin 2 dana point hit the flats and catch like 20 mackrael and cut them up and chum like 10 of them and use the rest for bait and u should get 1 2

Was the Grouper pretty much black with white splotches all over it's thick body?

For your own satisfaction check the DFG website for a pic of a juvenile BSB is you haven't seen one.

With all the BSB being caught at the Flats .... I'm thinking but hoping not a .......

wish i could but my mom went 2 disneyland wit the camera luckly i got a disposible camera and tooksum pics but the next time we go out ill bring her camera and take sum pics of wat we catch hopefully its on of those big groupers or bass oh yea by the way how do u post pics on this site

Glad you let it go since you didn't really know what it was, that's always a wise move. The only real "grouper" we have around here is the Black Sea Bass. You'll hear of Salmon Grouper but those are Baccacio rockfish and are not a real "grouper" (they also have some size and limit restrictions on them too). On the east coast they have a bunch of different grouper but I'm pretty sure the BSB is the only real "grouper" like fish we have around here.
