Don't forget a landing net. Also, duct tape. If you spring a leak that duct tape is a life saver. In addition to equipment, you need to know your limits. Don't kick out so far that you won't be able to kick back. And don't put yourself in a position that will force you to fight the wind back in. Also, think about getting an anchor.

Some tubes have a Ruler/Tape Measure designed into them. If yours does not, then a Tape Measure would be handy.

oh man my first time out was at silverwood, kicked out from a little beach by the marina on miller canyon side, went all the way across to try for some bass. Wind started ripping and i birds nested, so im fixing that and next thing i know im out in the middle in the boating lanes, HOLY S*** kicked hard for a good 45 min just to get back. I got tired, slowed my kicking and was getting carried back out lol. Lets just say i didnt do much fishing that day, it was an uphill battle lol. So i went out and bought an anchor for 30 bucks, damn that thing works wonders i love it. So my advice is to start out at a smaller lake if you can like jenks or corona until u get the feel of it, see how far u can go, maybe go a few times to get a better feel on your limits. Good fins are key also.

All of the above and also a Knife at the ready - a folding buck knife tied to a lanyard. and perhaps a whistle for safety. Clothing wise, I like wearing a hat that can also provide shade for my neck, and a light long sleeve shirt for hot sunny days - I have this one http://www.basspro.com/Columbia-Gen-2-Freezer-Shirts-for-Men-Long-Sleeve/product/10226553/407811 and it provides good sun protection and it really does keep you cool
