Hoped to splash the tube for the first time this season but mother nature had other plans with wind gusts to 25, white caps by 8 am and temps in the 20's. Scoped around Sat for some protected areas but wind was just too much. Sunday got out early and hit up a deepwater spot somewhat sheltered from the East wind.
Picked up a few on the slip bobber with a powerworm down about 10 feet.

This is where it gets interesting.
I see packs of trout cruising 5-10 feet from shore. They were all in full spawn colors. Threw the thomas bouyant, rooster tail, kastmaster...nuthin.
Finally tried the minijig .....game on.
Caught and released 12 from 7 am - 10 am. Left them biting to meet my kids for breakfast. Enjoy.

What were you using as bait? Power Worm? I guess I need to hit up BPS when I am in Vegas! I don't have that...

That spot by the dam is money for sure. Did you happen to see any carp cruising yet? I can't wait to break out the bowfishing gear, he he he.

Buying power worms is like buying oil for the car- there are so many choices: sizes, colors, and types and brands.... Sometimes this stuff is hard to figure out. So, what's a girl to do? I picked out five different types, mixed them up, closed my eyes and picked two. Hopefully I picked the right ones... going to try them out tomorrow : )

Nice fish! My first fishing rod was very similar. My mom ended up selling it in a garage sale.

Color can be determined by clarity or lack of the water. Corona Lake, anything with a white tail has been productive as well as green/yellow. I make my own mouse tails using different colors of PB. Jenks Lake, super clear water orange and red worms split shot and jigging them works, if the fish are on the bottom drop shot the worms. Having a pole with a fast action tip helps w/ the jigging. It is fun to catch them on the worms as most are lip hooked making C&R easier.

On the Flatlander complaint list you forgot Car Alarms.
I was at my Dads once and a car alarm went off and he said,
'Dam Flatlanders' Lol. He is off Fox Farm Rd.
I used to love fishing the creek at Boulder Bay in the 60's at spawn time.

North Shore/east of the dam has been a VERY trout-productive area for me since 1967. Run a meter over it, and it looks like Orange Crush 5:15 PM gridlock on Friday afternoon.

I really miss Big Bear and DVL since moving north--but being 2 hours from Bishop isn't so bad either.
