Im posting this to get unbiased views of my situation.
Since I was laid off in December, its been a struggle trying to get clients of my own. Jobs that I apply for has about another hundred other guys applying for the same position.
This past week an old buddy that I used to work with, out of the blue contacted me offering me a job in vegas that is hard to turn down. I have one job offer in the works in Azusa, but its a 25k dollar pay cut. The position in Vegas is paying 5-10k more than what I made last year. ~35k/yr difference.

I just broke up with my GF, no kids (that I know of anyway..lol), just my sister and her family close by. So im not "tied" down to Socal exept for good friends and my sister and her family. Im renting an apartment in Pasadena, so I dont have to worry about selling a house.

The company would pay for the relocation and they want to fill this position like yesterday, so they may be flying me to vegas as soon as tuesday for the formalities.

Upside - INCOME (higher and steady), lower cost of living, no state income tax.
Downside - away from friends and family, the heat, SIN CITY, even more so of a limited job market if I do lose that job, limited fishing

Thoughts?

No brainer, take the job. Sin City and you're single? TAKE THE JOB. Save your money in case it doesn't work out and come back. Dude, lake Mead and the river are right there...

hey man i would take it. theirs nothing that is stopping you from continuing to look for work here while you live and work in Vegas.

and your only a few hours away so i would think with increased pay and lower cost of living you would be able to make it out here to visit your family once or twice a month. The entire SIN CITY thing from every one i know who has lived in vegas they all say after a few weeks it wears off and they hardly ever went to the strip after the first few weeks

just what i think and what i would do is take the job and keep looking for work here while i live out there.

That sucks man. I just worked with a General Contractor last week on a project for one of my clients. If you want Ill pass along your info if he ever needs a tbar installer. PM me.

Good points guys, thanks. As easy as the decision should be, its not..lol

If you like to gamble dont take it. All ur downtime will be in casinos. Ive seen it happen plenty of times. People move there for the work and end up being more in debt becuz of the gambling.

If u can dont gamble so much then go for it. Too many fine women out there to ignore.

Id have to sign a gambling card (i think thats what they call it). which says I cant play the machines that are owned by the company. I thought about the gambling part too. I do gamble occasionally - mabye once or twice a year but it is a temptation. Maybe if I opened up an account at a credit union and throw away the debit card for it, i could just deposit most of my check...out of sight our of mind.

and yes, TOOO many fine women out there! Most of them would be out of towners i figure though.

Hey I would go for it if I was young and in your situation, I think the hardest part would be to pull up your roots and start over. Give it a try it might be the best thing ever...Hell you need a job....Best of luck.

Dont fear the unknown "embrace it" if you have never lived outside of Cali I think this would be a great time to do it. Save $$$ buy kick ***** guns you cant get in Cali "if you're into guns" and the best part is its a quick drive back. Best of luck. Rick

Take the Vegas job. If you don't like it, oh well. Look for something else/somewhere else. Wish I could find employment with a pay raise.

No fishing?????????? Ever hear of the river - the place with year round fishing ?? Go man Go, no thinking involved with this one. Good Luck

The Vegas area is prime for snapping back when the economy recovers ... being set up with a decent job before the recovery is a good thing. Lower taxes and cost of living is always a good thing too. Walk over the state line and don't look back. Ca will still be here to come and visit. The old "Nothing ventured, nothing gained" rings true for you here. Lake Meade, Mojave, and the CO river are great fishing holes too.

When ever I have a big decision to make, I make a T chart and put Pro and Con or Yes and No on the top and start charting my ideas.... then I can sit back and take a look at it and rationally think things through. Everyone here has great ideas- but you are the one that has to live with your own personal decision. What ever you decide to do, I wish you happiness.

Only thing I can add Lake Mead and the river! My buddy relocated out there years ago and living in Henderson is pretty darn cool, lot's of housing available and really it's not that far from SoCal, family and friends would have a good reason to come visit you in "Sin City".

I also worked there filling in as manager at a profit center years ago, enjoyed the experience.

Yes the heat sucks!!!

Funny those that live there are either addicts for gambling or never go down to the strip except to work like my buddy.

Go for it!
