Whats up folks,
Havent posted a report in a while and i apologize but this one should make up. This is the second time out for albacore this year and this one sure beat out the first one.
Day 1
Got to the landing and loaded up my gear. Made sure I had all my hooks, sun block, f-carbon, rods, reels, boots.... boots? WHERES MY BOOTS?? I forgot my boots at the front door of the house and needless to say i knew i was going to get soaked feet. sigh.. there goes another pair of walmart shoes. Get to bed after Paul does his wrap up and i get a chance to rig and check my drag.
Wake up and eat a breakfast burrito, Matt was the cook and he did a fantastic job of keeping me full. first stop we got on about 2-3 dozen fish. looks like its going to be a great day. or not.. the afternoon lull set in and we didnt get a stop for about an hour or so.
Next stop came in the afternoon, for a dozen.
our next three stops were for a dozen each that were spread out by 15 mins. pretty good fishing. then the lull.
last stop was at sunset, and bam, another 2 dozen fish. not bad.
Day1 count: boat 94 me 7
Day 2
after chowin on a nice plate of ribeye, veggies, and mashed taters (and cheesecake for desert), I head to bed.
Wake up at around first light and before we start trolling, i soak a bait and get bit by a small blue shark. Nice, my first, but we cut the line and let it go.
Pancakes and sausage today. i didnt partake, just some coffee and sausages to keep me going. i decided to try carolina riggin a basstrix emerald minnow on a 1/0 hook w. a f-carbon leader. aparently there were some yellowfin breezin and they werent that ready to bite them bigole sardines (which were smaller than usual as they were), but it didnt work out too well. we had a few good stops but i couldnt get a hook up until i switched to bait.
highlight, one guy hooked a 250lb class marlin on 30lb line. we followed it for 1.5 hours only being able to get it close twice. just couldnt get it uip to gaff. eventually the leader busted and we went back on the troll.
Stopped by a couple paddies for only two yellowtail.
Day 2 count: i dono how much the boat got, probably around 20-30, i only got one though :( .
all fish were between 25-40lbs (so they say)
