Many thanks to the Fishing Network for this opportunity. I found excellent postings through Google.

My daughter has expressed serious interest in fishing and I thought that our upcoming trip to Leo Carillo could be an opportunity to start.

However I was born and raised on the Gulf Coast of Florida and have extensive fishing experience that most likely gets me nowhere with Pacific surfcasting.

Any direction and advice is greatly appreciated including fishing license info, equipment, bait, times, techniques etc.

Thanks again.

The fishing license info can be found at any tackle shop or the DFG websight. If your daughter is 16 or older she will need a license with an ocean enhancement stamp as well. It's going to cost approx 50 bucks per person for an annual license. Your Gulf coast techniques will be easily adaptable to the fishing here in socal so don't sweat it.
The beach at Leo Carillo just north of the point is well suited for the novice surf angler with little to no rocks but rather sandy trenches that should be good this time of year for perch. The halibut are starting to move in too.
