I headed out this morning to a local stream for some pre storm TENKARA fishing.

As usual the winds are blowing around 15 – 20 knots always makes an interesting day.

The first spot yielded lots of rising and jumping to my attractor fly but no hook ups.

So I decided to leave and drive up stream to spot #2.

Walked to the WALL edge and hooked up my first fish after a high stick dead drift along a nice rocky wall.

Then I spotted a BOBCAT with a fresh rabbit, eating as

I was fishing a larger pool and had this hook up

Stayed on the edge of this new stream and presented to another micro pool and landed another.

Arrived to the main stream and fished a section with precise high stick dead drifts and was rewarded with 2 more fish.

I decided to drive down stream to one more place. Fished a long section that’s nearly dried up with some very small pools and only got one more fish ..( no pic)…

Noticed in 2 different areas pairs of trout chasing each other ….looks like Spawning behavior has started.

Enjoyed the report. Nice to hear that there might be some baby trout on the way.

Great report. Nice looking native trout. Have you fished this area with a 2 wt - 3 wt fly rod? With all the brush, may need to do a lot of roll casting.

Im only fishing with 11' Tenkara rod now ... im estimating my furled line may be more around 0 or 00 weight . In Tenkara fishing we tend to keep the line off the water and allow natural dead drifts. Casting is very easy in open area. Under branches i usually opt for side arm cast or BOW AND ARROW cast. Both very precise. In strong winds i usually let the fly "kite" up stream and hop it into place then let it drift til another gust picks it up and with that the process starts over. Really depends on the direction of the wind... either upstream or downstream. Lots of times you have fly in hand and do some very non Western fly type presentations.

Nice going on the natives. I really need to get one of those rods soon.
