sounds like a great trip for you and your dad. When I use to frequent open party boats, I would take 40,30,25,20 and 15lb rigs. I would always start with the heavier line and work my way down. The theory was that the fish would not be line shy as the boat would slide to a hault, also because you have heavier line you are less likely to get burned off in a tangle and you were able to bring in your fish alot faster than those using lighter gear. It worked great, as I would always switch rigs to a lower pound test instead of tying a new hook after landing a fish. Unless the fish are touchy, I always fish in this manner for tuna.

Most people don't like to troll because they want to fish the slide. First baits out are the first and sometimes the only ones to get bit.
