I arrived at 4:30am to find no one? I was by myself until about 5:15. By 6, it was 40* and there was about 6 cars. I launched in the dark and head down toward the dam. I dropped anchor in 65ft. of water (58*). Knowing what is lurking out here. I toss out some shrimp on the 12 pnd. test pole and 20 pnd. panga rod. After about 45 minutes, one gets hit hard, not wiper hard but hard. It's a nice cat, (what would prove to be about 7.5 pounds). Soon after the other pole gets rocked....now this is a wiper. After a great fight, I net a 9 pounder. Within an hour or so, kittie number 2 joins the party! This one weighs in a little over 6 pounds. In the 1st few hours, I've caught 2 of the biggest the cats I've caught in the last year.
Soon the panga rod goes bendo in free spool and I'm hip to them now. I set the hook and it's game on. This time, and impressive 10 pounder (wiper) comes up. The catfish bites seems to have stopped at this point (10am) but, I can't leave this wiper bite to hunt for dinks for some reason.
In the next few hours, I get slammed by several more large ones. I manage 2 more 2 pound kittes and another 8 pound wiper. I'm pretty stoked at this point.
I leave about 2:30 to troll back. About half way back, I get a double hook up. A dinker hits a small red minnow ? lure and a nice 3 pounder hits a small gold yozuri minnow.
There were maybe 8 boats on the whole lake today. It was great.
