It was likely a redhorse, or a sucker. Both have a trout-like shape.

I was out on BBL a few years back and my buddy and I were fly fishing, I was BS'ng with him from about 30ft away when a trout came out of the water and slapped him upside the face with it's tail, I saw it, I almost fell out of the tube, funniest **** i've ever seen while fishing. It happened damn shame it wasn't on tape.
