I got a hoop net for my birthday at the beginning of the month. Just in time for crab season. I think I've got a decent understanding of what to do and how to catch something (hopefully). I have been on these forums long enough to tell that a lot of you guys know what you're talking about  I'm just seeing if anyone has any last minute advise. I will be heading out early in the evening. I've heard chicken makes good bait so I'm gonna give that a shot unless anyone thinks thats a waste. Also wondering if Balboa and Newport piers are half decent places to go looking for crab.
Thanks in advance for any help

Get an Oily fish like Macs, Salmon heads, Tuna scraps, That works AMAZING. Ive gotten more off Balboa then Newport. Remeber with crab its a lot quicker then lobster so pull every 20 mins or so! Good Luck. make sure you have the right gauge for the different crabs!

Remember only 2 items allowed by DFG on a pier.
2 nets max or 1 pole and 1 net per person. No license needed.
I don't think we have a crab season in so cal.
