Howdy All!
I hit up a couple of spots on Friday and Sunday.
Friday I decided to hit the negative low tide and see why conditions have changed so dramatically down South here.
I had a meeting at 11:00, was done by 12:00 and headed over to Anglers, in Oceanside, to see if Peter had any LC’s in anchovy.
He was out but I stayed a bit and talked with rebel monk about, what else, fishing.
After words I headed up the coast to check things out.
The wind was light, the tide was already at 0 feet, the waves were almost non existent and the water was right around 62-63 degrees,

I started working the area and it was almost an hour before I got anything;

It looked to be around 13-14 inches.
After that it would be about half an hour before my next bite and the only species for the rest of the evening.
I reeled in a butterfly ray, let it go, got another, stepped on a few, caught another and so, and so on…etc.
I ended up catching 11 butterfly rays and probably stepped on 30-40 of them.
Here is one that I took a picture of because of the special trick it did;

I kinda felt sorry for it but gave me a chuckle none the less.
I stayed till 4:00, know where all the structure has moved to and left with this parting shot;

Fast forward to Sunday.
I arrived at Carlsbad at 6:40, the start of gray light, and it was quite chilly.
The temperature was 49 degrees but dry, the wind was blowing off shore, the water temp maybe 60-61 degrees, swells at 1-2 feet and waves were supposed to be 2-3 feet.
I started at an area (that last Saturday was black with weeds) where I could see down 4 feet easy, minimal salad and ideal conditions. Worked this area for an hour with no luck.
I got hit four times, stuck one, farmed it, then decided to head farther down the beach.
Everything looked good except for the lack of trenches and structure.
I finally got a BSP and another and another.
I ended up with 8 or 9 BSP, biggest maybe 9 inches and the smallest, well here it is;

They sure can be aggressive! I did also get one YFC.
After 5 hours of fishing that area I drove North to the area I checked out on Friday.
Not 5 minutes into it I get hit and reel in a 15 inch YFC. But alas, it would be slow for the next half hour.
I decided to check out a new spot and see if anything was home. I was into my 3rd cast when I got a nice little bend in my rod;

It taped out at 14”, would be my smallest croaker of the day, but my 18th WSB from the surf this year.
I continued working this area, but nothing else produced.
I started working my way back to the truck and arrived at a spot where there are usually some perch but after a couple of casts I got hit pretty good and got this nice YFC;

It was a hair under 17”, which is my PB.
I threw him back into the water and started working the area again.
Two casts later I get hit real hard in 18” of water, it took a little line and at first I thought it was a flatty, but it turned out to be another YFC;

http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/Mobile%20Uploads/image-68.jpg
Just over 18” and a new PB for me.
It was getting near quitting time and I was right at my trail. I threw one more for the road and got hit, it felt like another butterfly ray, which I had 2 for the day, but was my 5th species of the day;

Well hello little buddy!
It was my first halibut in over a week.
What a great way to end the day!!
Since this crazy high tide stuff is leaving us, maybe things will get back to normal.
Have A Good Week,
Robert
