Just to let u guys know the Calabama Rig will be available at Bass-a-thon. For you guys that are not aware of this bait it a castable umbrella rig. The striper should not be able to keep there mouths off it. I have personnally fished it and have caught largemouth on the Calabama Rig so we know it gets bit. I have gotten the green light from fish and game and Tourney directors. This is a tournament ready bait.
thx

How many hooks does the Calabama Rig have and do you have any pictures of it?

So, the Calabama rig is just an Alabama rig which is just a modified Umbrella rig. If memory serves me correctly, here in CA, in freshwater we are only allowed to fish with a maximum of 3 hooks.

Yes the Calabama Rig does have 5 wires. I have spoken to a dfg warden and have gotten the green light to fish the Calabama Rig in California. Yes you are correct that in California the Reg states 1 angler, 1 rod, 1 line you are allowed to fish up to 3 lures and each lure is allowed to have up to 3 hooks. the 4th and 5th wire would then be rigged with no hooks. Because the 4th and 5th wire do not have a hook in them they are not considered lures. They would be considered a dummy bait or a teaser. I hope this sheds some light on your question. And yes I have pics but I don't know how to post them on this site. You can go to Westernbass.com got to the classifieds and pics are up on there site. Hope this helps and hope to see you at Bass-a-thon.
Thanks
Danny

In my quest for a double or triple duct hook up I tried this simple mini umbrella rig last year. Threw it some and did hook up on it once with a single fish. I personally prefer the single lure instead of chucking this thing in strong duct current. Maybe troll or lake fishing it is different but for traditional casting, a single lure worked better for me. This is a legal rig in Cali as it has only 3 lures. It runs nice actually and looks like a fish killer but like I said I had better luck on single lures. That calabama rig looks a bit more complex.

That's not the original "Alabama Rig" that made popular. The Alabama rig has 5 wires coming from the back so you can spread it anyway you want. Not sticking out the side like that. Since the craze, there has been many knockoff/imitation. I think they all work the same as long as the wires are strong enough to keep them spread.
