I like to fish a day or two after those derby's,because they usually stock a nicer grade of fish and they as a rule they don't get cleaned out in one day.

Hope to see you all there.
Maybe I'll be there earlier to get ready for the registration...That will take forever....

I'll probably get there around 7:30 to register. DFG has started to stock some city park lakes around LA with trout, so hopefully this derby is also trout. What a tiny little pond though...

BTW can you fish the LA River around this park? Looks like there might be spots on either side, but only one seems fishable.

I participated a few years ago, helped my nephew catch blue gills, hoping to win the small fish contest. Someone else caught a guppie instead and won...it's a good derby for the kids.

Left there a little while ago... SKUNKED of course haha. It was packed and getting even more crowded when I was leaving. Didn't see too many people catching fish, but a lot of people crossing lines. A guy got snagged on my line, and his next cast he snagged some kid next to me. This old asian dude, Ming, had a 3 fish limit in like 30 min and he won a free pole! Go Ming!

I was the third person there, and set up on the north side. Got first one in about 20 min. and missed a couple.
After nothing for a while and observing action on the east i packed up and went looking for a spot. I setteled
on the south side, any it payed off. My daughter got her limit and so did i. We misses the large fish prize by about a 1/2 inch.

Good stuff man. You have more patience than i do. Crowds and loud music isnt exactly my ideal fishing scene. All the kids looked like they were having fun though.

I was there too.The small lake was really crowded.I was in the black and white columbia jacket with my wu-tang beanie.Caught a 1.5 one in the first 10 min. When the ppl started to come,no more luck. Finally, caught a 19 inch one from a couple meters away from the shore.Lost a 2 pounder. Not bad.It sucks when I heard Im not able to compete in the derby.otherwise I'll be the second place...u know,I'm just 17 and I handled all the stuff by myself...
