I got the call from Big Daddy to go striper fishing. We planned to meet at the lake at 4:30am. As I approached the light at the bottom of the hill my phone started to ring, it's Big Daddy! "Where are you at?", he asked? "The bottom of the hill", I replied. "Is that you pulling up to the light?" Wow what good timing! We both arrived at the lake at the same exact time!

After they opened the gates and Big Daddy launched his boat we sped off for one of his spots. Big D landed the 1st fish of the day shortly there after!

We weren't metering too many fish so we decided to move to another 1 of Big D's spots. As soon as we rolled into the area we couldn't believe our eyes at all the fish that we were metering on his fishfinder!

Not long after that Big D landed his 2nd Striper of the day. Then shortly after that he gets hit again but this one takes him to the bottom into some structure. After a few seconds of patience the fish came back out and Big D pulled up what ended up being an 8-9lb channel cat!

A couple mins later one of my rods starts going off so I grabbed it and set the hook on my 1st ever striper!

And the action didn't stop there! I ended the day with 8 fish and Big Daddy with 12 or more + his channel cat. We released a few fish each throughtout the day so we wouldn't go over limit.

Good report
I am sure many will disagree, but I will take a wild striper over a stocked trout any day. Good report, not a bad trip for some first time striper. How would you compare those stripers to some vine trout of equal size, just curious.
FTW

Great report Taper Steve (you killed them my friend) but you know we made a cardinal sin of leaving a spot when the fish were biting but we had too. With 10 fish in the boat in about a hour with also releasing as many as we did we had too. The good thing is that we caught fish at every spot that we went to. I think you can go just about anywhere and catch fish here. I love this lake.

p.s. you don't owe me anything

Your right.
Those that Disagree have probably never caught a striper or been on a all out striper frenzy bite. No comparison. I love to fish trout (don't really eat much of the stocked) but I really love the battle as well as the taste of the stiper. Fried, Steamed, Broiled, Grilled, like it all.

Great job getting your first striper.

It was nice of BigDaddy to let you catch a few of those.

DVL does seem to have a few striper.

I read an article years ago when they were building it. It said that there weren't going to be any. I thought, what a shame, that place would be perfect for them.

I know, that not everybody shares my enthusiasm, but I'm glad they're in there.

Congrats Steve on your first striper! Those fish can battle. You will now become a addict! Just what you need another species to spend time and money on LOL. I have been hooked on striper fishing since a kid fishing Havasu. Big Daddy is a class act and no one better to hit the water with on a mission.
