DVL 10/22/2011 with FarmerJohn and KPN
FarmerJohn invited KPN and I to fish DVL with him last Saturday.
We heard that trout had been stocked so we started out by throwing big baits. With no action after a while we cruised by the buoy line to see what was going on then checked out a couple more spots.
We decided to head for a deep spot when trouble reared it's ugly head. The motor was quitting right after it started. Each time we started it it ran for a shorter time. John checked the filter and the pump. The pump was week and we thought that was the problem. He tried running it on a prime but the results were the same.
We called the ramp for a tow and they were headed out to help us.
Then he checked the spark. There was an area of sparks near the points. With a closer inspection he found a spring shorting the points to ground. He grabbed the spring with forceps and pulled out. Problem solved! The motor idled well and ran well at medium RPM but began to oscillate at high RPM. must be the vacuum advance spring.
Finally got back to fishing at about 9:30! We set up on KPNs deep spot and he started picking up a few fish pretty quick. I was soon to follow, then John joined in.
KPN picked up the most and biggest fish. John picked up a limit and I got just a couple more.

Here's my 94 quart cooler. A little later the lid began popping back open each time we put a fish in it.
