Warning!!! for pouring lead weights etc!!!!

When you get a group together to pour Molten hot lead from USED lead junk, be careful, VERY careful..
This happened Sat in Orange, Ca while having a Lead Head convention.
(kind of gives a whole new meaning to Lead Head?)...
Great company, some good food, tons of laughs and got a lot of weights poured.
Then the poker game started!! Ill spare you the sordid details of that.. LOL

Large used pieces of lead, especially old fishing weights, probably have water or air pockets in them. IN this case a 1 1/2# Ball fishing weight picked up at a garage sale, melting in a 10# pot as I poured into molds from it, Totally spaced on any danger, just talking and having fun.....
When that water or air pocket gets hot enough, * BLAM * major explosion of Molton Lead.......
I was Lucky, very lucky!!!!! Could have been so very much worse!!!

Wow that looks like it hurts..I use a full face shield and welding gloves when I pour I get used tire weights to make my Rock Cod sinkers.. and a little splater on the skins smarts..Glad you are ok..

Holy ****, dude.

Man the burn on your elbow looks painful as hell! Did the lead get stuck to your elbow? Kinda looks like you had to rip a chunk of cooled lead off. I'm getting the urge to cover my elbows with my hands now :LOL: Thank goodness for eyelids!! The burn over your eye looks like it stings like hell!


Maybe you should get a welding mask, a lead vest, and welding sleeves like these:

Wow! That is bad stuff right there. Very glad that it wasn't worse. Hope it all heals up soon and I think I will just pay for my lead now!

Glad your ok!! But it must hurt. Same thing happened to me at work one time cutting a pipe set in lead with my acetylene torch, I was glad I had full welding gear on.

This was actually very minor. It looks a whole lot worse then it is/was..

I just hope the warning to others about the danger helps......
