Wondering if anyone has ever tried fishing those random streams/creeks that are found all over socal cities?

I've heard of people catching bass from those little creeks/streams, just wanting to see if anyone can speak from experience.

Yes and yes.

I've found several 'runoff channels' and actual creeks in the Inland Empire absolutely loaded with sunfish, bass and carp. Watch out for poison oak, polluted/treatment water, needles, homeless camps and you'll be ok. GL.

Here's a blog post from one of my urban small creek trips, a few green sunfish. (http://huntingtheriverking.blogspot.com/2010/09/green-sunfish.html)

Those look like they would be fun to catch CarpAnglerDude! I've actually been thinking about trying to find some spots on the Santa Ana but down here in the city. Wondering if I can find a way to the river behind those houses next to fairmount?

As far as creeks I only know the San Bernardino Mountains. Where I grew up in San Diego most of the Rivers & or Creeks are illegal to fish out of as they are anadromous waters. But out here in the IE I believe you can fish practically anywhere.

certain small streams might contain populations of santa ana suckers, in case anyone's looking for a new species for their list.

Check that one off the list.

(Why anybody would actually target them is beyond me, as they fight like a wet sock. If it wasn't for the river current, my rod may not have even been bent)

Careful. The Santa Ana Sucker is endangered. So I'm assuming illegal to fish for. There's a huge lawsuit going on about it currently about protecting their natural habitats in OC and IE.

Btw, viciousjellyfish, the Santa Ana Sucker is not classified as endangered, it is listed as 'vulnerable'. You can fish for, and even keep them, as long as you aren't fishing in protected areas. You can even find this fish in anaheim, in the portions of the lower santa ana river that have flowing water.

Cool. Good to know. Now i'm considering catching one for my backyard pond. Would be nice to have a suckerfish natural to this climate, other than tropical algae eaters that need heating or die in winter. Thanks for the correction/tip smokehound. And i agree, the sucker in the pic is huge.

It would be grand to have a native fish in your backyard pond but it is illegal to transport any live native fish from the water it is caught in to some other location according to our friends at DFG.

Now I don't feel as bad eating the sucker.
