whats up fnn? Just picked up my 1st fly rod, a used 9ft 5wt loomis that i plan on taking up to the sierras next week, for my 1st fly outing. Im setup with a floating tapered flyline and a 9ft 3x 8lb tippet. This setup should be suffice, no?

Needless to say, i don't know to much bout fly fishing, so i was hoping to get some fly recommendations or any other tips off the pros..will be fishing from bishop to Bridgeport (E-Dub) for 4 days in hopes of the big brownies. Will be stream fishing and lake fishing from shore...any good flies for the E-Dub??? Any standard flies that i should have stocked up?

thanks in advance,
-dave

I would use 4x or 5x tippet, 8 lb is a little heavy for a good presentation if you're fishing with dry flies. Your best chance for a large brown this time of year is the East Walker using streamers.

Here is a good site with the standard flies for the eastern sierra:

See the fish report at [URL="http://sierradrifters.com"] and they have all the great reports and recommendations. He also lists the flys and subaquatics that are working well right now. I have fished with him and his many days and never had a regret and had many a 50 fish day.
Good luck.

I'd stick with nymphing and streamers as a novice fly guy. Getting a drag free drift on dries can take some time to master. Where you're going is fishing very well that way.
