HOLY CRAP! That is something else! WOW, thanks for sharing this Fishmounter!

I never though it would be possible, but what do you know bluegills and crappie can actually cross breed, crazy!

Jeff, that is freaking beautiful! You got that just this morning? My goodness, if that's in LP, I better get a good digi cam to take better shots, and a platform to bring the fish's body out.

Ok... The gig is up. I was just wanting to see if anyone knew that this fish is an actual breed of fish, and smokehound nailed it (as usual). It's in the Sunfish family and it is indeed a Flier caught by Jeffrey Abney in a swampy area in North Carolina. Beautiful fish, but they don't get very big. This 8 incher is a big one.

Even though it's a flier, it still really looks like a hybrid of a crappie and Gill'.

Even though it's a flier, it still really looks like a hybrid of a crappie and Gill'.I always felt they looked more like a rockbass/crappie hybrid, because of the black dots

came across one of these yesterday

first initial impression was that it was a redear.. then I realized its mouth was too big.. definitely a cross breed between a bass and a sunfish.. rock bass.. go figure.. heh.

Gigantic flier. Good one, FM!:)

I think different sunfish species hybridize far less often (if at all) than most folks think... I've yet to see a pic of any purported hybrids that didn't turn out to be a less common or lesser known species - like the flier.

But Bigfoot, now that's real!
END OF THREAD!
