Yup, amazingly slow. Blue Wagon invited me earlier this week to fish Corona, and Ive just been drooling for some trout, so last night confirmed that it was a go for saturday.

Got there half hour late and Blue Wagon already had his Colorado XT set up - he has some great mods on that thing!!! Got mine set up in what seemed forever, but was only 30 minutes. On my way to the water, I think I saw Phishin Phool packing up to leave (confirmed with his post that it was him). I thought bad omen. Get to the water and I see a floating trout by the boat ramp. Oh boy....

Trolled with a Kastmaster and a mini-jig for nothing for an hour or so. More dead trout floating on the lake. I must have seen at least 5 floaters in just that hour. Stopped to have brunch and wuddayaknow, I hook on a smallish crappie. Skunk gone, but still no trout. Only saw one guy on the shore near the dam catch a trout.

It started getting hot so BW and I took a break a beached our XT's to find some shade. There was a nice 5lb trout that was dead near the bank that we beached on. Man that thing wouldve put up a real nice fight on 4 or 6lb line!!!!! Pitty.. One of the guys on that bank landed two trout in about an hour. But in talking to him later in the day, thats all the action he had.

After our break from the sun, I went out and tied on a Panther Martin. Slight bend on my rod, then it really bends! A minute later, a beautiful 1.5lb (est) rainbow. That mustve been one of the most beautiful trout Ive ever caught (second to the 9lb hooknose I caught in the bay area several years ago).

In all, excluding myself, I saw maybe 5 trout caught. I think the heat mixed in with the abuse of the 30 hour truck ride that the tail walkers had to endure made for bad fishing. I shouldve followed in Marleys actions and used some night crawlers.

Oh, I met Kelster at the cleaning station. He was smart and targeted crappie :Big Grin:

Even though it was hot out there and the fishing was slow, still had fun with good company. Thanks for the invite BW! Next time, bring enough hooks for me to borrow! :Big Grin:
And thanks for the new toon wheels and holders~!

Sorry, no fish porn guys. My phone was low on batteries and wouldnt let me start up the camera.

great day to have the toons' out but the fishing was bad, real bad little to no trout action all around and with water temps at 72* plus Im surprized we didnt see more floaters. for those that went for the cats it was good seen a few limits,,was told at the gate by 7:00 am there was 200 people.
casting call beat the skunk with a nice fish and he earned it , he was all over the lake looking for a strike.
hope the new wheels make transporting a lil better for you and the rod holders makes trolling easier .
we just need to wait a few more weeks for the temps to drop.

As a side note, we saw a syringe near the boat ramp. I was dumb and wore flip flops. Be careful where you step.

I would like to get me something that will hold my weight and to get me off the shore . I need another model . 400 is not going to cut it for me

Most inflatable pontoon boats range in 300-400lb capacity. Might have to go with a different option. If I had to choose something fairly inexpensive and small, Id go with a small jon boat, or one of these

Oh, no...we ALWAYS get heat the middle of October. Let's hope those prairie fish found something cool down deep and just stuck their noses in the mud.

Holy shiznit, that's a lot of people!

Marley, are you suggesting it was too warm for the trout?

Sucks about the 5lb floater...

[QUOTE=Marley;586518]...Marley, are you suggesting it was too warm for the trout? ...

Never! Why would anyone ever think anything like that? Why, it's not even any of my business what happens to those fish. After all, I didn't pay for them. I just appreciate the fact that the lakes plant those fish earlier and earlier so I can go and spend my $80 on more Sundays so I can rent a boat and catch my five fish. I'm just happy I didn't have to pay for the fish.
But if the water was a little too warm for the fish's liking that doesn't mean they all died, they're just not feeling much like eating. And I can say that the lake is full of shad so if those fish are prone to feeding on natural forage once planted, they're gonna be full of bait for a few weeks anyway. Plus, if they keep to their usual schedule, this week's plant will either be Mt. Lassen, fish we know want to bite in the lake, and/or Jess Ranch which are desert fish anyway.
I think I'll wait a few more weeks before I go back. Business taking me to Dallas for a week here soon, planning for and wrapup of that trip will take a month and by then I will for sure be needing to spend a day on the water somewhere.
