First of all let me explain that since I am new to the Pacific Coast, most species are new to me. However I have fished about 5 times in the past 2 weeks, and pulled something new out every trip.
So let's get started. Lately I have been fishing the Jetty at Del Rey, but yesterday I decided to try a new location. With a little suggestion from fellow member Dockrat, Lets just say that I fished somewhere between Redondo and Santa Monica Beach.
I went with my GF and 2 buddies from Downey. 1 of which had never been fishing and the other one hadn't been in 4 years. The boys and my GF used my 2 Daiwa Rods, set up with 8lbs test. I used my Okuma with 12lbs test. We Brought 1/2lbs of Squid, and 1/2lbs of Anchovies.
We stayed from about 7pm-1am and the NEW spot was.....AWESOME.
My buddy who had never been fishing cast out with a piece of anchovie, and as he was walking back up the rocks, got a nice hit. I told him to set the hook, and REEL! It turned out to be a nice sized yellowfin croaker.

Anyways,
The Anchovies didn't work very well after the croaker, squid seemed to be doing better tonight. We lost a lot of our bait to rats, and i gave some to some fellow fishermen.
I caught 2 small staghorn sculpin within the first hour

I then ended up catching a Thornback

I then get my first good hit of the night and I catch a 20" width Bat Ray, and within 30min I catch my second one.http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd173/Mr_Dunev/FISHING/DSCF0919.jpg

I send my line out again, and after another 20min I hear the Bzzzz of my drag, and end up pulling this little guy. Just found out it's a Horn Shark

The end of the night comes, and I pull out another Bat Ray, the best fighter yet. 32" long and 21" in width. I would say around 7-8lbs, but who knows.

The 3 rays and the little shark, were all caught on the same 2 pieces of squid, on my halibut rig. Had to rip off the bait at the end of the night, it was still good enough for a couple more casts.
It was a nice quiet, slightly windy night. Met a couple nice fisherman. With 3 new species for me, it was definitely a great night. If anyone reads this, and is interested in joining me for some late night fishing PM me.
best,
Lucas
