I got a late start last night, when one of my friends was arrested for ticket he forgot to pay last year. When night fishing I usually like to arrive between 9-10pm.
First off I went with my girlfriend, and my buddy and his lady. They hadn't been fishing in a VERY long time, so I let them use my other rods. We park on Pacific, and walk the 300 yards to our spot, which is about 100 feet from the end of the jetty. The reason we don't go to the end, is simply because the rocks get too steep to climb down, especially when trying to climb back up with fish in hand. It was a perfect night, with not a soul around, except a couple hooligans who went to the end of the pier to smoke pot. As they rode their bikes past us, the quoted "Are you guys going to move, or are we going to have a problem?" Haha I stepped to the side, and gripped my 2ft mag-light a little tighter, and let them pass....Idiots.
The best part about fishing there is the green glow that comes from disturbed water. Whether it be your line hitting the water, or a fish swimming past, it is awesome to watch. I set up two of the rods with simple 1oz weights above a leader with size 2/0 hooks, and cut up anchovie. These were for our guests and my GF. My other more personal rod, I set something a little better up. The setup might already have a name, but I call it "magic" haha. It was sort of a drop shot. I had a 3ft leader with 2 hoops at 1 ft intervals. I put glow in the dark beads on the hoops with a simple swivel and 2/0 hooks, with a 2 oz weight at the bottom. On one hook I used anchovie and the other I used squid. I would cast it out, tighten the line to get the bait off the bottom, and just let it sit.
I caught 8 fish total.
1st fish was a small sea bass? But I'm not sure, since I've never caught one before.
2nd and 3rd were both Thornback Guitarfish
4th was a Scorpion/Rock/Stone fish
5th and 6th were Guitarfish again
7th another Scorpion/Rock/Stone fish
8th another F***ing guitar fish
I had fun, even though there weren't any fish worth bragging about, or over 5lbs. On the brighter side EVERY fish I caught was a perfect lip hook. It feels good not having to dig around in the stomach to try and retrieve the hook
That's it, here are a few pics. (one is a stingray I caught a few days ago at the same location)
