The cooler temperatures during the day and night have defintley put the Catfish population on the chew here at Irvine Lake. Both species of Catfish that inhabit Irvine Lake are biting full speed in an attempt to fatten up for the oncoming winter. Anglers are reminded to dress warm as temperatues dropped into the high 40's the last two nights. However, this is the weather that puts the lunker Catfish and bass on the chew.

Bill Kim of Fullerton is pictured here with a 17.4 Blue Catfish he took while fishing the trees in the Santiago Flats. Alex was fishing Shrimp attached to braided line to sebdue the quality whiskerfish. Alex also choose to release his fish as part of our help "Save the Blues" campaign earning himself a free admission pass.

Danny Jackson was fishing for big blues and channels with Mackeral when he hooked into this quality Wiper (Hybrid Stripped Bass/ White Bass). Danny's Wiper weighed in just shy of 10lbs and was caught at the West Shore. Danny releases his fish per Irvine Lakes mandatory bass release policy.

Fishing is still wide open for the Channel Catfish as well as they continue to feed in the deeper water, say that 15-30ft range. They are showing a strong prefrence for Mackeral, Shrimp and Bonita fished flylined. Remeber to be on a Main Lake Point, near structure or near the old creek channel when targeting these fish.

Phil Hildebrandt of Anaheim and Craig Adkinson of Orange found the fish on various high spots (old Dredger piles) along the Santiago Flats. Phil and Craig where fishing with Mackeral and Shrimp to bag this 40lb+ limit topped by a 7.8 Channel Catfish.
