Just got back from my forth trip up. This time it was the father-son duo. Wife is 4 months pregnant so I figure this may be my last trip for awhile and tried to make the most of it. Headed up early Friday morning and the first stop was the casino in Bishop. I was lucky enough to get the money I lost in the previous trips back.

Friday
Got to Mammoth around 2pm, checked in the motel and hit up Lake Mary. As soon as we walk to the lake it started to rain. After the rain came the hail, thunder and then lightning. Long story short we left for safer fishing. We hit up the Lower Owens at Benton Crossing for an hour or so before the storm chased us away. I caught 4 fish on drews pink worms and my dad got bit by some mosquitos.

Saturday
Woke up early and headed out to lake George. Winds were not too bad and the fishing was not too bad either. Soon as the sun came over the mountains the winds came up in full force. We mananged 8 stockers before we left for Mary. We found a spot protected from the wind and I watched my dad reel in 4 fish on inflated n/c. P/b, lures, jigs did me no good. Went back to the motel checked out and stopped at Convict on the way to Bishop. The winds were still blowing but we found a spot on the north shore where someone was leaving with a limit. We mananged 6 stocker and a 2.9lb Alpers!!! My dad caught the fish on n/c but as part of a bet I had to take credit at the store (running inside joke). Here is a link of the fish

After that we headed to Bishop, checked in the motel and headed up to Intake ll. We didnt catch anything but we didnt care. The Alpers made the day.

Sunday
After reading from previous reports how good Sabrina has been we went up to rent a boat. What we found was a whitecapped lake. The winds were so consistant and strong that the flag was straight. We then went to South lake to find the same conditions. Fished for a min and fished S. fork Bishop Creek. Found a spot that was full of fish including a few bigger models. Caught 8-10 stockers and got bored so we went to the intake. Once again no fish so we pondered on where to go next. Before going back to Convict we went by Sabrina to see if the winds had calmed down. The winds layed down and we got a half day boat. We went straingt to the inlet where we got into the best 3 hour trout bite ever! My dad went thru 3 cartons of n/c. Keep in mind that he cuts them in half and reused some several times. I would say 50+ fish for him and 30+ for me on drews worms. The hot color for me was blue (go figure) and orange. The trick was to cast out and reel in slow as possible. After awhile I stopped fishing and watched my dad reel in fish after fish while enjoying the scenery. If this is my last trip in the forseeable future I went out with a bang. Kept 9 fish for family back home.
Dad at the creek fishing for a bird or a tree.
