Looking for something to keep my upper body warm and dry. Perhaps multi purpose to use while fishing streams in sierras or tubing in the rain or even over waders in the surf.

I'm looking at the Simms G3 guide jacket, but I'm not sure if I'd want to subject something like that to salt water.

Cabelas stuff is top notch...Been using it in salt for three years with no issues

Had a BPS 100mph suit for a few months...The zippers did not like the saltwater on that jacket

Both kept me warm, but the cabelas is better quality IMO

you just missed a 4 day sale at cabela's. They had there $200+ gortex jacket for like $90. I got a gortex bib that retails for $239 for like $80

What happened to your shell jacket?

It's a very, very nice water "resistant" shell. It works for a while, but as I learned last year sitting in my tube during a 9 hour torrential downpour, water started soaking through my sleeves after a couple of hours. Not really a big deal, I was just looking for some recommendations if I decide to get something "waterproof". I'm not a fan of the PVC coated stuff, it has to be breathable.

I got a North Face Summit Series jacket off of eBay that came with a zip in fleece that has worked really well for me even in the heaviest downpours last season. It's a proshell jacket which is the top of the line Goretex product. The sizes run a bit small, so you may want to go up a size.

Columbia has some new gear out with their Omni-Heat technology. It's supposed to keep you super warm! I haven't bought any yet, but am looking really hard at purchasing some.

I have a simms windstopper soft shell jacket that's pretty amazing. Not too thick/hot and breathable. It's a soft medium layer. and it's water resistant. (not completely water proof so I throw on a thin north face water proof outer shell with a hood when it's downpouring.) I love this jacket!

Go to Sierra Trading Post, they have a sale on all kinds of jackets right now.
