Nice, I tried to hit that spot up after I left San Pedro on Saturday but I didn't realize you cant park after 11. A cop came and shooed us off, lol.

i use 8 for lc's and 6 for 3-4" hammers, tried 10lb pline cxx and hated it, super thick. I had it spooled on my reel about 1hr before fishing and it already had tons of memory, i think im going to try 10lb izor platnum next.

Hey Kid great job out there I arrived at the surf in LB yesterday evening and saw how bad the red tide was then turned around and went home instead of fishing.

Halis aren't line shy at all. 10lb, 12lb, and straight 50lb or 65lb braid all catch fish with hardbaits. 10lb is better for 3in swimbaits or dropshot though. No need to go any lighter from a practical point of view.

Way to go on catching some flat fish!

I use 25lbs Trilene Big game on my 400 TE, with a 9 foot G Loomis noodle, and still getting fish on the lure. I think light line only works great for bait fishing. Lure fishing does not affect size of the line.

Try Izor XXX instead of the Platinum.
It's a more limp (less memory) line than the platinum

the 8lb is great, havent tried platinum 10lb yet but i do have some xxx spooled up and i like it. Platinum has less stretch then the xxx but either way its farrrrr better then pline.

20# straight braid in the harbor, If I'm in a really fishy spot i may throw on some 12# fluoro. Outside the harbor I toss 50# Izor spectra straight, if its the wall i throw on 30-40# fluoro

sorry to thread jack, but where is that spot?
i work in long beach & stay down here during the week. i've been scoping out spots after work, but haven't had much luck.
hit a spot today with no luck. (a local said it was called sunset beach?)
saw one guy catch a baby Leo, but nobody else was catching anything.
i'd love to find a spot to wet my line after work, any suggestions are much appreciated.
thanks!

72nd Street Jetty right by Alamitos Bay. The jetty and beach area immediately North always kicks out halibut.

thanks for the advice bsp, i was able to get out there after work today & have a little fun.
started off by farming 2 mystery fish, the landed a small cuda & some snake/lizard looking fish...i'm sure someone on here will know what it is, but i sure don't.
anyway, i'll be hitting that spot again, looking for some hali's.
.

as for the report, bait fishing seemed to be pretty slow for everyone there. a couple of kids said they had caught a few smelt, but everyone else i talked to only hooked skunks.
i was only there for a couple hours, but was able to land 2 species & farm 2 on jerk baits
here's some crappy cell pics of them....

Good ol' Lizard Fish , I hold the unofficial world record for most caught in a
single day , most caught on consecutive cast and most caught on artificial
lures ... lol

Nice going on the Cuda , i fish that area alot and have yet to catch one.
I've seen them in small schools breezing by , but just couldent get them to bite.

Careful throwing $baits when cuda are around...those teeth can separate you from your LC really pronto...

What's your record? I hold the record for the largest caught. It was about 20" ROFL.
