Hey guys - long time no post.

So, i think i'm ready to start fishing again. My neck doesn't hurt anymore and i'm 100% back to full mobility. Thanks for all your wishes for my speedy recovery.

I'm gonna make this one short and sweet.

Just to test out how'd i'd fair on a boat again, i decided to take a simple overnight rockfishing trip out of Channel Islands. Booked a spot on the Pacific Islander.

Got to the landing around 9 pm on Saturday and boarded and embarked by 10pm.

The cap gives us the rundown that he just came back from the worst rockfish/surface attempt in a long time so he told us we're gonna go to the FAR island... San Miguel!!

COOL! Alot of us have never fished the far island before so we were all stoked... and rightfully so.

7 hour ride there - woke up and started fishing at around 6am.

What a sight for sore eyes. The water was glassy but still had a good healthy current to keep the fish biting all day.

26 guys on the boat (and one hot blonde chick who worked in the galley)

We started off in the morning fishing about 220 feet deep. 10 oz weight and 50 feet of 40# was my preferred setup of the day. Double dropper loop w/strips of squid.

It was stupid wide open all day. STUPID. Can you imagine how good i must've felt after 3 months of looking at posts?

Needless to say, we all limited out in about 2 hours...

http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee133/k3vin_kim/sacks.jpg

Some guy pulled up this beauty - i've never seen one in real life - China Rockfish

http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee133/k3vin_kim/China.jpg

Then we made a move to the shallows and i changed over to my bass gear cuz we were right up on the kelp line. Fishing about 70 feet deep.

Threw on a live squirt on a 3/4 oz lead head and when it hit the bottom i was tugging on this sucker.

http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee133/k3vin_kim/lingcod-1.jpg

We fished until about 1 in the afternoon - everybody on board had a wonderful time.. I wish i could fish this island ALL the time but it's really far.

This was one of those trips where you're told in the beginning, you'll only have 5 hours to fish so fish hard... truth be told, i'd rather only fish for 5 hours and catch nice quality fish - than fish for 9 hours and catch mediocre fish. This location totally made it worth while.

And Amy in the galley was such a sweetheart - always attentive and easy on the eyes, i didn't mind going into the galley and flirting with her either.

http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee133/k3vin_kim/Amy.jpg

All in all, everybody had stuffed gunny sacks with 5-9 pound reds and a few lings to boot. JP was taken by an 18 pound goat near the kelp.

DR

what... the...

nah - i'm still here in Lomita - for the past few months i've been learning from NickXlam the joys of surf fishing... speaking of which, in retrospect, i wish i would have brought my new phenix/curado setup to fish the shallows - that would have been the icing on the cake!

and

WHich way - he's right, i don't eat fish so i gave it all to my new boss and my parents.

Hey Kevin, quit hitting on the galley girls.
DR

I felt kinda bad for her cuz there were a few drunk guys... one in particular that was just being flat out of line - saying stupid things like...

do we all get a chance with you in the bunks later on tonight

and

can i pay with my tip?

Fortunately, the guy was so drunk, he slept through the morning bite and didn't get up until about an hour before we left. Dumb *****

Looks like a great trip, from the fish pictures.
I wish I could have went, but I had other plans.
Let me know when you want to get that first legal surf halibut.
