It seems to really be hit and miss out there as far as finding the fish. It was really foggy out there and didn't clear up til after 10 am. I fished a lot of random spots looking for a bite, and caught about 8 or 9 lmb in the 1 to 2lb range. All of them were either here or there. I come into one particular shoreline an see the bass pushing shad real close to the bank. I start chucking a shad wake bait towards the shoreline ahead of me. Within a couple casts i had two nice largies make a pass, but no one committed. I decide to put it down and go back to dropshot. After another 20 min of nothing i get the urge to throw my wake bait again. Right into the stick ups....reeled a little, twitch, twitch....boom!! The single best topwater hit i've ever had. I thought he was a double digit bass by the ruckus on the water he caused. It looked like a living torpedo just crushed the bait. I pulled him in an he weighed just under six. Epic fish made for an epic day. Lost a bigger fish well over 5lbs on a hump. Went deep and snapped my line. I'll be back next week to get that sob!
