Looking for UL reel recommendations and thinking about Shimano Sedona 500 or Sienna 500. Is the Sedona worth the extra $30.

I have a Bass Pro Shop Microlite (mfg by Pflueger) and it's ok, but looking for other options.

It will pair up with a G Loomis SJR 720 IMX rod that's 20 yrs old (back when Gary owned them).

Thanks

x2.

I use this size for 4lb and can pitch 2 gram lures about 30-40 yds. With 2lb test on this size reel I'd say one could make a 50-60yd cast if he knows what he's doing.

Oh and the sienna is a solid reel if you're not going to be constantly stressing the drag with fish over 1.5lbs.

Thanks for the suggestion, I may consider a 1000.

My favorite line is 2# Izorline xxx, but use 4# xxx when throwing Rapalas and Lip Ripper Z spoons.

you can use 2lb with a 1000, sahara is probly the best bang for the buck, or a stradicFI if you can find one on sale. Try 2lb pline floroclear, 7.99 for 300yds, its softer and casts alot better then izor xxx but not quite as strong. izor platnum is good also.

At least get a 1000, actually I have a Sienna 4000 and it's pretty decent for the price plus I got an additional 20% off when Sports Authority had it on sale.

yes the sedona and the sienna are both nice reels and also the sahara

I agree. A 1000 would probably be better but a perfect sized trout reel for me is the Shimano 750's before they discontinued them this year. I loved the Symetre and Sedona 750's. If you plan to get a 1000, then I would recommend getting a Saros or Symetre. I think they have a 1000 sized spool on a 750 sized reel. They both weigh 7.1 oz comparing to the Sedona 1000 which weighs 7.7 oz. I believe the Sahara 1000's only weigh 6.9 oz too so that's also a good option. Or look for a older new 750 model on ebay. I still see them once in a while. I also own a few Sedona 500's and love them on my UL 4'6 small creek rods.

+1 on the sahara and the symetre. i use a sahara 1000 and a symetre 500 for my smaller stream rod and love them both.

i bought a sedona and wasn't impressed...the bail kept sticking and it just didn't feel nearly as good as the 2 reels i mentioned above...

Pflueger "President" 6720. Awesome little reel that's not too expensive.
