I was able to squeeze a few hours this morning to bring Eddie from the swim team I help coach fishing. Eddie is 14 and has never been fishing before, and his single mom is not able to bring Eddie fishing.

I picked him up at 5:45 and got to the lake at 6:45 to light showers and a loooonnng line of cars and boats. 30 minutes or so later we launched the ole FunkyDory and started trolling around. I showed Eddie the basics of how to use the tackle and work the lure. My rod got hit fairly quickly and I set the hook and exchanged rods with Eddie and he brought in a nice little schoolie striper with a big smile.

This happened a couple of times more to bring his tally to 2 stripers and a 3 lb bass (released).

The action slowed as we moved on down the lake. Eventually I hooked one more striper but it threw the hook during the fight with Eddie.

We worked all around until at 9:45 the showers became fairly heavy and I decided to call it a day and headed back to the dock. When we were almost at the dock the rain lightened, and we decided to give it one last try and headed back out again. We let out the lines at the last spot for the day and almost immediately Eddie got hit HARD and his line started peeling off in a long run to his exclamations of "Whoa!". Eddie started gaining line then the fish made another run, and again and again and again, but each run was shorter than the last. Finally I could see color and I told Eddie, "It's a BIG one!" A few tense moments at boatside as the fish ran under the boat and around the outboard then Eddie was able to pop the fishes' head to the surface and into the waiting net.

Well done Eddie! 8.65 lbs and completely unassisted from working the lure to setting the hook to bringing the fish in - not bad for a young lad's first time fishing!:Big Grin:

I call BS on this claim Dylan. You want me to post the pics as proof?:Neener Neener:

But it was definitely more fun for me to watch Eddie catch this toad than if I had caught it myself. Especially since he did it all himself.:Big Grin:
