I have been back fishing now for a year after taking off too much time for work, family and soccer. Getting back to basics by reading, following these threads and adding to my “old School” Bass fishing equipment and lures has also been enjoyable. Had no confidence in dropshotting but have still caught enough bass at Irvine with Texas rigged worms, creature baits and cranks for this last year of fun. Wanted to “Up” the game and so I searched around this site and decided to go with a guide. Selected Lake Perris (Never have fished there ever) and also got in the boat with Pete Marino. What a GREAT DECISION!! This guy knows Lake Perris and is a really nice guy. Its all about the customer!! The bass action was so good it was SICK, Off the Hook, whatever floats your boat, etc…! We totaled almost forty (40) high quality Bass this day along with my PB over 5 lbs (BASS PORN FOLLOWS) and I even talked my family into buying this outing as my birthday present since tomorrow is my B-Day!!
We got on the lake by 6:15 and water temp is running 80-82 for the day. Some tule fog around the lake and nicely cool for how hot it got later but for this morning; the top water bite was going off!! We were throwing shallow and catching 2.5lb to 3.5lb bass. These are quality fish and really exciting to watch these bass “blow-up” on the lure and even sometimes having up to three bass exploding on the lure and looking like a yellowfin boil. BEST Top Water bite EVER for me! What fricken FUN!! Little did I know this was just the beginning…… We moved and by 8am and went to deep water dropshotting. We pulled up on the spot and immediately started pulling bass. Everything from 2lb to 5lb+ and all off this deep ledge. I had never been successful or thought how fishing this way would be but those “mushy” pulls or slight ticks signaled bass and lots of them including that PB of over 5+ lbs. The best part is that this technique to me is so easy and really stupid in doing. No brain surgery involved!!
Great day on the water and this morning this old man is a little sore but in all the right places and with my smile is still on my face. Pete Marino is the man and knows this lake!! If you want this type of fun, catch more fish then you generally do when you go out and have a great time vs the money spent, save those penny’s and quarters and get Pete to take you out on Lake Perris. Just look for that little lime green box on the right hand side of the FNN posts page and get on Perris w/ Pete Marino. I guarantee you will not be sorry!! Thanks to him and this fishery that was just the best in delivering this day’s results I usually dream about. So much fun I am still smiling and cannot wait to go fishing again with the new found skills I have picked up from Pete!!

Happy B day. Great choice on the guide trip with Pete. I went last Oct for my b-day and we had a great time. The only thing is Pete made me wash and wax his boat when we were done fishing. I thought that was part of the deal. That's a great gift for anyone. Peace.

I used his advice on how to find structure to locate and catch my personal best last week. Probably wouldnt of happened without him. Nice fish. You should book a trip with him in the winter I here he is the king of that lake for winter patterns.

Thanks guys!!!

Fishboy12 next time I really will make you wash and wax my boat...AND MY TRUCK!!:Twisted: Ive been trying to get ahold of you...call me..

Karalm...Like I said...YOU DID GREAT!!! Im glad those topwater fish cooperated some...That bite is hit or miss depending on conditions...Im glad it worked out. And I knew those deep bass would chew big time!! IVE BEEN HAMMERING THOSE FISH FOR A WHILE so I knew we would be HAMMERING THEM as well... "I told ya so"...hahaha
You were a quick learner. From casting the baitcaster to sweeping to set the hook on the topwater...To watching me and learning how to work the dropshot bait and setting the hook by reeling into them...(the bite we were on is rediculously specific from the location to how you work the bait) As you now know, If we casted off the spot or worked the bait the wrong way we wouldnt get touched.... You did AWESOME!!!
People around us were scratching the heads because we were catching so many!!!
Just wait till the Winter bite starts...ITS WAY TOO FUN!!!

Thanks again..

And thanks Konacrush, KingShad, Hawgstalker, Fishgirl12 (Hahaha) and riverside_angler..

Ill post a report on this trip with some more details tomorrow...Stay tuned!!!
