Launched aroun 3 o'clock, made a dip of bait, wrecked the bass till closing, only took a couple pic's.
stopped counting after 30 bass, the cove that I finished in, the bass were busting all over it, finished the night off with the only striper caught, last fish of the night...

Side ways though the hard spot above the lip, or up under the mouth though both lips, I find this way the hook won't turn back into the bait and foul hook.

"made a dip of bait"

Hi Dave, I have in the past try different method s of catching bait fish with no good results. I have try an umbrella dip net and minnow traps. I'm about to get a boat today, does your method involve of shore dip net? if so. recommend any good dip nets? Thanks.

It's a deal... Lol... It's always greener! I help design and sell kayak fishing equipment, pretty kicked job, only thing is I thought working for company like that I would be fishing all the time... Lol... Nope don't even have 1 keeper hali outa the yak this year, summers of past I would be at least in the 20-30 range by this time of year! At least I got sum striper action thanks to your good reports! Nice job on the bass, a 3.5 is a decent fish! Keep up the gd work... Somebody's gotta do it!

Cool so did you get the boat ?
I really don't know what's out there in the shad net department but I know that Gallions corner market in Castaic has one for sale and I believe that's one of the "ARC" nets.

Nice day out there Dave! Looked like a blast out there with the wide open bites!:)
thanks

Late summer and fall are probably the best time of the year to fish Castaic! Bait or artificial

Was at the lake Thursday and Friday boils were pretty good in the afternoon. Tons of largies boiling a little closer to shore than the stripers. Where are you making bait. I can find the balls but seem like they are just to tough to get right now. No big surface balls.

I find them in differnt spots each day, never the same, biggest key is to let them come to you, takes a lot of time doesn't always work, but the more u chase them the faster they run. But they can make or break the fishing day...

Isn't that the truth. I was fishing the dock by the lifeguard tower on the west side last week and this Asian guy was catching some nice adult shad on a habiki rig. Gonna go up at open Tuesday am and give it a shot. But ya shad is the ticket man. Thanks for all the great post and instructional advice.
