Ok so I've been fishing the Kern River for about 3 years, off and on i'll go to my favorite lower river area and try for bass and catfish. Well I've been trying some new things, anew I believe I got this river dialed in on a whole new level as of this week! About a week ago I hooked up with a very beautiful catfish, I've never caught one like this before. http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z437/Shade42087/Snapbucket/3506e2a5-fe49-4897-b584-47a5467b14fd.jpg I was pretty stoked about the new fish, released him then next cast I caught its twin, then after that it was time to go.
So then I decide to go out during the next day, which I never do because its so hot in bakersfield I feel like the lakes temperatures are too high for the fish, so if I'm going fishing mid day in this heat, the river is the only way to go I believe since the river stays cold in this blistering heat. First cast I land me another one of these things.http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z437/Shade42087/Snapbucket/999c05e1-059c-4d22-b10c-eaccdc8ef513.jpg so now I'm kind of excited, I caught about 3 more and a couple smaller Bass, then i called it a day. I went out again the 3rd day with a buddy of mine, he's a bit older than me and hes been fishing the river forever, I had to show him what I was doing. So I'm messing around with a Texas rigged Predator worm, and hooked up with the biggest bass the two have of us have ever seen in the river.(3.5 Lbs) http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z437/Shade42087/Snapbucket/742d5ccf-009c-45f7-9eb0-ceba9a6ee56f.jpg kept fishing all day and ended up catching some smaller bass and a couple more catfish. So then I went out the next day (yesterday) and landed like 12 fish altogether, including this carp that doesn't look like much, but I'm telling u, I thought it was a monster at first. He was all over the placr, ripping drag and coming close then repeating that business for 3 minutes straighthttp://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z437/Shade42087/Snapbucket/98226cd7-0561-44ed-95dd-f2fcfe26fffd.jpg then I pretty much just put away the night crawlers and started using plastic for the remainder of the day, bass are my favorite so far to fish for anyway, so aggressive at times and timid at others ;-) http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z437/Shade42087/Snapbucket/2718f89e-1c71-4448-81b8-7dfcf931571a.jpg I even like catching the smaller ones, Err it doesn't bother me anyways.
Well that's that, I went out and seriously put in some effort and I can honestly say that I have changed a couple of my closest fishing buddies minds (and my own) about the Kern river, and fishing during the heat of the day, I hope that this fishery continues to thrive and move forward Thx FNN -Mike A.K.A. The Lucky Basser PS- all fish, caught and released ;-)
