I can start by thanking John (AKA- SkunkedAgain but he wasnt this time) for letting my son and I split a trip with GREGG SILKS ( good bargain). on 8/26 Greg started the day by telling us how we would be fishing that day(bait). The first three stops only a couple of light taps no fish. Then we headed west. We marked fish in 250 feet they were scatered from 50 to 120 feet. Long story short 17 stiper in the next 4 hrs. 1- 9lb 11oz 1-8lb 7oz 1- 7+ 1- 6+ the rest 3-5 lbs.
8/27 striper derby day my son and I picked up 15 my son had the best 7+ just shy of 5th place. I should have saved my 9-11 for the tourney oh well bad timing on my part. It was a great two days and without GREGG'S help there is no way we could have caught anything close to 32 striper. Oh SkunkedAgain and budy on derby day had 14-16 striper. THANKS GREGG !!! PS I did win a $80 rod & reel combo from bass pro in drawing at derby. GREAT prizes this was a small prize but more than paid for the tourney . FUN DERBY thanks for all the hard work.

oh yeah after all was done my son gave all the fish away to a few people in the parking lot that didnt have that great of luck. He just didnt want to clean the fish :Secret:

didnt have the camera on the day of the derby but here are some pics from 8/26

Killing is right! Somehow I think you knew what you were doing Cliff. Your rod did not seem to bend unless it was a big fish. I really thought you guys had placed with the 7 lber!

For those of you looking for a great striper guide, Gregg Silks has my vote!

Total catch for the Classic Tourna between Juan and I were 18 for the day. We split as we saw the mini tornado along with the lightning. Just 2 shy of our limit.

I saw you guys by us. That was one cool mini tornado. Would you mind posting it? Did the fish bite any better after we left?

Was that your Twin Vee CC19 I saw in the parking lot behind you?
I have a TwinVee Weekender 26 but it's too big for the lake.
Congrats on a great catch!

The boat is John's (AKA-SKUNKED AGAIN) he invited Chad & I on his boat with GREGG SILKS. Very nice boat easy to fish from.

Yes it is. The Weekender 26 is a very roomy and comforatble. Too bad it's too far/big for the lake. I think they are one of the most stable and roomy boats to fish on the water.

A TwinVee CC16 would be ideal for lake fishing I think. TwinVees are such nice stable great riding boats! I am jealous of your boat! Good job to DF2 and DF3 too! I got a limit but big fish was only 6.25 lbs. Whupped! Good learning experience.

Nice fish Desertfishen. Even better Idea to hire a guide day before the derby, wish I would have thought of that. Nice killin!

Congrats on your limit. I saw you out there and was wondering how you did. 6.25 is not too shabby at all.

I agree, the Twin Vee 16 is ideal for lake. I had taken a guided trip out of the Virgin Islands on this boat. It will outride and out stablize any flat bottom, shallow and deep V hull on the market. If you had a good vhf radio, you could take the 16 to Catalina and back( with a little discretion). It handles whitecaps very well. If you tilt the engine back and bring up the front end, it will break and cushion the whitecaps. Any water that comes in drains right out the self bailing holes. It's wide and strong enough to take 3 people very comfortably. A small 3 liter truck can pull it.

(You'd think I was a salesman for Twin Vee)
IMHO, if you are not a professional bass fisherman and do not need the speed, I dont know of any boat that would out-perform the Twin Vee 16.

The fish started moving around like crazy when the storm came in. They began to get harder to find and moved off shallower I believe.
That tornado was a lot larger than it seems. The lightening added to the effect too. It was a pretty dramatic end to the tournament.
