Decided to give the lagoon a try this morning. Not to many brave souls out there willing to broil themselves, so I was able to enjoy the solitude, and hit a lot more spots than usual. Saw some blow ups and small bait getting chased, so I started out tossing the SF (Shad Fly). No takers. Switched to the Larry's Minnow, and stuck with it for the rest of the day. As the sun began to beat down, the surface activity slowed down. But I got lucky and stuck a nice one (7lb 2 oz). Great fighter too, had to play it on the reel. Towed my little pram around for a bit and jumped a couple times.

Pounded a bunch more spots for just one more fish, at 3lb 7 oz. Called it a day at around noon. Roasted, but satisfied.

I believe it had to do with the 108 temps where having and fishing the boils!

Super nice fish on the fly, by the way it was fun watching fish the flyrod the another night on the striper boils, I liked the the way you were stripping the line.
Wanna give fly fishing a try one of these days.

That was my buddy Dave up on the bow doing the hand-over-hand stripping technique. He's spent years fishing stripers off Montauk. When the stripers are blitzing on "rain bait" (bay anchovies), you have to get the fly moving fast, and keep it moving, or else you won't get their attention. The bait we have been seeing up at Castaic has been real small.

Sick pics they should put that first one on the cover of the Santa clarita magazine. Give castaic a little love.
