was great to meet up with the legendary BU crew for the incoming this am... warm, minimal salad, small-medium waves with occasional surge, and hardly any wind...

like mythical figures standing on the beach from an era gone by... they who speak of WFO Halibut days

I use Sahara 2500 with 15# powerpro braid, 8# flouro leader, size 4 hook, 1/2 oz c-rig on a 8'6" Clarus steelhead rod medium-light. Has worked great on everything from the surf so far...

I wonder where the "legends" are going to fish when the MLPA closes that area?

In any case, great job getting out there with your dad! I always enjoy fishing with my dad, and it makes the slower times fishing better. It looks like you guys did well today though, so it was all the better due to his companionship.

Only thing would be to watch out how you tape fish for next time. Mouth closed, gills not flared, and tail right on the end of the ruler. It might seem nitpicky for perch (yours is closer to 12in), but it definitely matters when you catch that 21.75" halibut. Those things will make a difference between it being short and legal.

Yeah thx for comment. I was only thinking of getting it taped and back into water quick.. So wasn't waiting for the right moment to get an accurate measurement. But with things like measuring legal halis... I see what u mean.

Nope! just my iPhone 4... yeah i know it's dangerous to handle it in the surf... but I usually keep it in my zippered pocket up high on my waders... but I guess it's inevitable that I'll drop it in the surf

I should get a waterproof camera sometime...

glad u guys like the pics/vids!

Good report and makes me wish I was out there. What kind of reel is in the shot of Bobbie and Robert holding their fish? It looks like a classic reel but then the finish looks like a newer reel.

IMO the truth is, the General is the true "legend" Not to make comparisions or to
be a respecter
of persons, but IMO that term is a long and hard, proven and earned name and honor !!!

Robert's reel is a fancy Van Staal reel.. Size 100 I think? Retails for $700-800 if I remember correctly. U can look it up online. I think Robert said these reels/drag systems are completely waterproof.
