perfect weekend @ Isabella/Kern

Hard to recall the last time I took 2 days off in a row and with summer slowly slipping away, I wanted to make sure I got in some quality time with my daughter. Decided to hit Lake Isabella and enjoy some fishing and swimming so off we went! After fighting our way through a killer traffic jam we decided to make a pit stop at everyone's favorite spot BSP for a break!

Picked up some misc gear including a new pair of water shoes for the both of us and hit up the shooting gallery :Big Grin:

Topped off the tank and headed out as the sun set on the desert (nice pic LilTD)

Got to the River around 10pm and pitched a tent to the light of the full moon and woke up to a glorious morning. Took a walk after breakfast and watched the river before heading to the lake. The rock in the background is where I spent many days as a kid fishing and doing cannonballs....I hope my girl takes shares the spot with her kids one day.

Drove over to the lake and parked next to the auxillary dam for some fishing/swimming and loved every minute of it!

Fishing was kinda tough, but it was more about goofing around and swimming more than anything.....for some reason this picture reminds me of Irvine Lake :ROFL:

Despite the boat traffic and us swimming next to our fishing gear, Isabella never dissapoints...this fiesty trout fell to the "Timster Special" with Bite-ON Garlic while listening to TM65's famous fish calling music aka Led Zepplin II! :LOL:

We tried catfishing that night, but our efforts only produced a fat bullhead which we released. Of course two days goes by waay to quickly, but we will be back soon!

I was up there this Sunday with wife and son we managed 10 fish Trout and left our spot by 12 noon weather was nice.
Looks like you had a good time and ended up with fish to boot, It will be nice when the weather cools some, Im doing back over the next holiday

River is excellent. Flows are about 750cfs (slow) and crystal clear. Stocking continues every week and fishing has been very good. Water is cool but not freezing. Perfect for tubing or a swim on a hot day.

Time to head up that way again! I took the grandson and 2 daughters with Marie and I earlier this month, and spent a GREAT day along North Fork fishing--swimming--and loafing. I need to get the boat back onto Izzy, hoping the docs clear me for foot immersion in lake water soon. This wound care thing is a real speedbump on the freeway of my fishing season. Expletives deleted!

Looks like a great time, headed to Kernville in two weeks, son can't get enough fishing and should include time with his grandfather since we will be visiting them there.
