Sorry for the late report but better late than never huh?

A few weeks back I happen to come across a spot at Isabella where large bass were “Wolf Packing” early in very shallow water. I took a few pictures because I know that everyone wants to see pictures. The pictures are from 3 different trips. On each trip, all of the bass were caught within the first 2 hours of the day. Most bass were caught on Spro Bronze Eye frogs, Buzz Baits, Lucky Craft Pointers and 6 Inch Weedless Huddleston Trout.

The first trip we hooked 15 bass but only landed 11 of them and got bit at least another 7 or 8 times. The second trip, 25 were hooked, 18 of which were boated, lost count of how many we missed and the third trip we hooked 13 but only boated 8 bass and missed 4 more when they hit. Basically a wide open bite, at least for the first 2 hours of the day. Of course all bass were released to fight another day.

Now the bad part, the water level at Isabella is dropping pretty quickly and on my last trip over to the lake my prime spot was in about 1-2 foot of water and it wont be long before its completely dry. I do have a good ideal of where they might move off to, a secondary flat not far from the current spot, but only time will tell.

On all 3 trips we were being watched very closely by this guy but I really don’t think I have to worry about him telling anyone about the exact spot.

I camped on Boulder Gulch about three weeks ago and gotta say "I love Lake Isabella!" I wish I had more time to fish and learn the lake but in the two days we were there I had a blast! We had a nice Bluegill feild day pulling out probably15 in about an hour. One of them was a whopper(for a gill) that I wish we had kept to weigh because I've never seen one that big(couple pounds). We also got one Rainbow but it was pretty small.

The Kern River was awesome but I didn't get to fish it. We took a drive up Sierra just to take in the scenery and get a Kern Brewing Co. Jug. Some of that Just Good IPA.

I actually now have some really good friends that live directly above Hungry Gulch so I plan on making the trip out there as often as I can. Its about 2 1/2 hours from where I live. Thanks for the pics, that makes me excited to go back!

For the smallies try the lower river below the dam. spinners and small jigs work well. white is real good
I found them on accident while fishing for trout with some left over crickets I had. Stopped on my way home when I used to live in Orange County. It was a pleasant surprise to say the least.

There are Smallmouth in the lake, just seem to be far and few now days. Years back you caught them all the time. They seem to show up every few years. I know 2 years back I caught and released quite a few real nice ones but nothing recently.

Like Fishin Magician said, try the lower Kern.
