A few years ago I was shopping for a float tube when I found this little 1956 14' Sea swril with original trailer and a 1968 20hp Johnson for only $350 (after a little bartering). I forgot that the reason I was buying a tube was the fact I don't have a vehicle big enough to tow! I cleaned it up and put a few ped seats on and started it up and it ran great but found the bottom end was leaking and the seals would have to be replaced. Found a guy on Craigs list that came to my house picked up the lower end and came back the next day and replaced it (rebuilt). He said the gears etc looked great and even checked the compression of the cylinders and it was perfect. My friend offered to tow it to the pudd so off we went. Neither one of us have ever launched a boat so Wed was a good day and it went pretty smooth. We left his kids picknicking with his mom and started off around the damn continuing to saleboat cove when I couldn't resist the temptation to stop and drift a worm. Well that was the last time it would start. We started rowing and the CG spotted us and very politly asked if we would like a tow back to the docks and I sheepesly accepted! I have the solid state ignition that might right the situation but for now it still refuses to start. It ran smooth and had no leaks until I pulled the bonehead move!

Cute Boat. Just a guess, I say it's the points in the distributor.

Yeah..I was thinking the same and will probably be trying the SS ignition soon. Thanks for the input.

Had you ran it in a trashcan to see how well it ran before dropping it in the lake?

Yes...for almost 2 years I started it regularly and it ran perfect but never ran it longer then 5 minutes or so. At the lake it ran great for 20 minutes until I shut it off to fish.

Did you have clean fule tanks and did you replace the fuel lines?
Sticky float in the carb, perhaps?

Hey One_Leg. Its seems that you know a lot on Boats. Do you know anyone that might be able to give my engine a tune-up or an oil change? I have a 1992 force outboard engine. Thanks

Albert
