First off I would just like to say thank you to the Balboa Angler Club for putting on a GREAT fun Tournament, we had a great time fishing it and cant wait for the next one.
We left Smoggy Riverside at 3:00 a.m. To head down to Newport dunes launch ramp to do the usual meet n great at the launch ramp. Paid our entry, and rigged up. I check out my reel and see that my spinning reel filled with brand new floro got spooled on the freeway...Rad

Dropped the boat in at about 4:30 and headed strait for bay island. I started off throwing a 3" #139 BH on a dark head. LL was throwing a Ft. Lines in at 5:00 I Hooked up on a 10" spottie at 5:03. Good start.
We got our first fish to cull at about 5:15. Heres Lunkerlover with a nice early morning fish.

We got a few more Shorts as we kept hitting the docks. These fish were hugging tight on th pilons. I switched it up to a #125 BH and had a steady pick on smaller fish.

At about 6:00 I got my 1st to cull.http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx342/lovefofish/IMG00132-20110813-0704.jpg
We worked our way to the end of Bay island and hopped moved closer to The bboa fun zone and continued to have a solid pic on 13-14" spotted creatures.
It was nice knowing you have your limit and still have 6 hours till weigh in.
About 9:00 the sun came out and the bite slowed. But still had fish coming into the boat.
We hit some spots deeper in the bay at about 11:00 confident with our wieght But still trying hard to cull fish.
Then I hear from up front. " bro last cast then lets go wiegh in" Pitches 4" BH....." this is gonna' be a fish." ...."Fish on!!" Lunkerlover Got a SOLID 2#1/4 spotie.
High fives then on to the scale.

Moment of truth... We weighed our fish. 4# 7 ounce bag.

We were happy with this, but were a little discouraged when we heard about a HUGE 6.5# bag.
Pulled the boat out about 1:30 and devoured some 5 Buck boxes.

Had great day flipping on docks and fishing with a good friend.
Thanks again to Balboa Angler Club and Capt. Decker for putting on an awsome event. Wish I could have made the BBQ. But still had a great time.
